The Beast

Project Description

This is a research project exploring how "intelligence" can be perceived in systems by unique structures and systems. The specific claim being tested is "Intelligence is when a system evokes fear and stress".

The core of the system is taken from a card game called "Flip 7". It is a probability-based game where a deck of cards numbered 1 to 12 (their value), with a distribution scaled based on the value (one 1, two 2s, three 3s, up to twelve 12s), is drawn one at a time. If you draw a card that's already in your collection, you die ("consumed"). If it's new, you score safely. You can "feed" (draw) or "flee" (bank your score).

In The Beast, by completely hiding numerical data, percentages, and rigid rules, the system forces the human operator to make decisions based on sensory overload and biological instinct rather than rational calculation. The system appears to "feel" angry and "decide" to attack, but it is merely executing a standard Boolean logic check. The interface weaponizes the unknown, proving that a UI can act as a psychological manipulator, transforming a static probability curve into the illusion of an autonomous predator.

Shows a much more simplified version of the game Flip 7's mechanics.
